Micro Prisms in the Rat's Brain

Micro RAP in the Brain of Rats
Abstract
 
Micro Right Angle Prism (dimension 1.5mm) with a HR coating on the Hypotenuse for HR@ 425-550nm and 850-950nm. This Prism’s coated face will be mounted to a metal optical mount using a UV curable adhesive . The Prism and mount will be implanted into the brains of rats and used for two photon microscopy.

Design Key Point
a. The lab will use Norland NOA 81 (Nd=1.56) glue and it will go across the Hypotenuse face.
b. Laser light is centered at 920nm but at picosecond pulses, will have a spread due to the uncertainty principle so the range 850-950nm is needed.
c. The expected fluorescence is in the range of 425-550nm
d. The angular range, the central ray is 45 degrees to the Hypotenuse. They are imaging with a numerical aperture of 0.5 to 7 in air, which means a half cone angle of 30-44.4 degrees in air. Within the BK7 that becomes 19.3 to 37.6 degrees. So that the full range of internal incidence is 17.4 to 72.6 degrees for the larger numerical aperture and 25.7 to 64.3 degrees for the smaller aperture.
e. With the outer surface embedded in optical cement of index 1.56. reflectance at internal angles of 17.4, 25.6, 64.3 and 72.6 degrees across the full range of 400-1000nm
